Smart Horizons Career Online Education (SHCOE)—the world’s first AdvancED/SACS accredited online school district—has been recognized as one of the top innovative online education companies in the inaugural edition of Education 2.0: A Catalog of Innovation, a publication of the Washington State-based Freedom Foundation.

Freedom Foundation is a private, non-profit public policy research organization that is dedicated to advancing individual liberty, free enterprise, and accountable government.

Education 2.0 is a product of the organization’s iLearn Project, which is designed to identify, defend and promote the expansion of public online learning options. The publication features innovative programs and companies around the world that demonstrate the powerful student learning outcomes that can be achieved when visionary leaders apply today’s technology to education. SHCOE was one of only two online education providers recognized in Education 2.0′s “Non-Traditional Programs” category.

SHCOE’s affordable online program enable both adult and youth learners to earn a high school diploma while also completing coursework for a credentialed career certificate in areas such as Childcare, Transportation Services, Office Management, Homeland Security, Protection Services, and General Career Preparation.

“In discussing which programs would be included in Education 2.0, it was very important to us that we highlight the broad range of life-changing applications that digital learning can have, including adult online education,” said Diana Moore, who serves as a Senior Analyst and Director of the iLearn Project for Freedom Foundation. “SHCOE is a leader in providing high school diploma completion and career training that meets the learning and life needs of a variety of individuals. We hope more programs like SHCOE will come to be after viewing their example.”

Education 2.0 will be distributed to district school board members, district superintendents, legislators, the State Board of Education, members of the State Policy Network, and key education reform organizations across the country. Hard copies of the publication will be produced in the coming months, and the publication is also available for free download at:
