Following three days of rigorous evaluation by a team of distinguished educators from AdvancED/SACS, Smart Horizons Career Online Education(SHCOE), located in Pensacola, Florida has been recommended for District accreditation. This historic achievement makes SHCOE the world’s first online school to be recommended for AdvancED/SACS District accreditation.
AdvancED’s/SACS Vice-President, Dr. David Hurst noted “the education world is changing very rapidly and with SHCOE we are looking at the future of education.”
Smart Horizons Career Online Education is a private online high school district that gives student’s an opportunity to return to the education process and earn a high school diploma online, as well as a career certificate in an array of careers. Career certificates are currently offered in the areas of childcare and education, home health (coming in the mid 2011), transportation services, homeland security, protection services, and office management.
According to Dr. Howard Liebman, Co-Founder and Superintendant of SHCOE, the accreditation process has been an extremely rigorous process of self-study and self-improvement.
“We’ve been developing, evaluating, and improving our educational model since our team launched Smart Horizons Career Online Education” Liebman said. “It has been a continuous process of refining all areas of our operations, curriculum development, enrollment management, and online instruction. There is no more prestigious accreditation recommendation SHCOE could have received than the one from our esteemed colleagues at AdvancED/SACS and everyone associated with SHCOE is very proud of this achievement.”
AdvancED is the unified organization of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). AdvancED provides nationally recognized accreditation for school districts and individual schools and represents 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 69 countries worldwide, educating 15 million students.
“We are very pleased to obtain this recommendation from such a prestigious educational organization,” said Dr. Richard Goldman, Chairman of the Board for SHCOE. If approved by the commission of AdvancED/SACS in February 2011, SHCOE will be positioned to provide online education programs to the 45 million adults seeking high school diplomas and career certificates. This not only allows us to better serve the growing population of SHCOE students, but also serves to bolster the U.S. economy by improving the overall education level of the workforce.”
“We stand at the threshold of a new phase in the development of Smart Horizons Career Online Education,” Goldman said. “We look forward to forming strategic partnerships with school districts, community agencies, post-secondary educational institutions, and prison systems. It’s exciting to be the world’s first online school district recommended for AdvancED/SACS District accreditation, but even more exciting to envision the journey ahead for SHCOE.”
